Schismus (Greek, schisma, a cleft, referring to the 2-lobed lemma). Gramineae. Low annuals with short dense panicles of pale shining spikelets. Species 4, Medit. region and Afr. S. calycinus, Coss., has recently been intro., but is of no horticultural importance. CH
