Cattleya violacea, Rolfe (C. superba, Schomb. C. Schomburgkii, Lindl. C. odoratissima, P. N. Don). Pseudobulbs 8-12 in. tall, clavate, somewhat compressed, 2-lvd.: lvs. 3-5 in. long, oval or oval-oblong: peduncle bearing 3-5 fragrant fls. 4-5 in. across; sepals and petals bright rose-purple, the sepals oblong-lanceolate, acute, the petals oblong-rhomboid; acutish, undulate, broader than sepals; lip fleshy, distinctly 3-lobed, deep purple-violet except the yellow disk streaked with purple, the lateral lobes triangular, acutish, the front lobe nearly orbicular, crisped.
