Tulipa borszczowii, Regel (later spelled Borsczowii. Pronounced Borshovii), Bulb ovate, fuscous, outer tunics pubescent within: plant glaucous, very glabrous: st. 12-18 in. high, white pruinose, lower third covered with lacerate scarious sheaths, 1-fld.: lvs. bluish green, ovate-lanceolate, gradually attenuate from the broader base to the apex, decreasing in size, four in number, the lower up to 6 in. long, more or less undulate: petals cuneate-obovate, apex rounded to the noticeably abrupt cusp, red with an obovate black blotch at base; stamens glabrous.
