Hibiscus arnottianus, Gray (H. fauriei, Leveil.) Tree, 20-30 ft.: lvs. large, ovate, short-acuminate, entire, 3- nerved, stiffish, shining: bracteoles 5-7, triangular to lanceolate: fls. axillary and solitary, very large, white, sometimes with pinkish veins; calyx tubular, 5- toothed; stamens long - exserted, white or red. Hawaii: cult, there, and intro. in S. Calif.
