Lonicera hispidula, Douglas. Bushy shrub with sarmentose branches, rarely twining, usually hirsute: lvs.oval to ovate, rounded or cordate at the base, often with foliaceous stipules, the upper connate or sometimes distinct, usually small, rarely to 2 ½ in. long, ciliate and pubescent, rarely glabrous: fls. in slender-peduncled and often panicled spikes, pink or yellowish, glabrous or hirsute, 1/3 -1/2 in. long, with short gibbous tube. June, July. Brit. Col. to Calif. B.R. 1761. Var. vacillans, Gray (L. californica, Torr. & Gray. L. hispidula var. californica, Rehd.). Of more vigorous growth, with large lvs.to 3 in. long: corolla glandular-pubescent outside. Calif.
