Mahonia pinnata, Fedde (Berberis pinnata, Lag. M. fascicularis, DC. B. Aquifolium var. fascicutaris, Bean). Two to 6 ft.: lfts. 7-13, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, undulate at the margin and with few spiny teeth, grayish green and somewhat lustrous above, 1-2½ in-king: fls. in short, fascicled racemes: fr. blue. Calif., N. Mex. and Mex. Var. Wagneri, Jouin. Lfts. 7-11 with 4-5 teeth on each side, dark green above and slightly lustrous, light green beneath.—This variety is about as hardy as M. Aquifolium, but grows taller and is very desirable. Possibly a hybrid with M. Aquifolium.
