Aronia atropurpurea, Brit. (Sorbus arbutifolia var. atropurpurea, Schneid.). Purple Chokeberry. Shrub, to 12 ft., closely allied to the last: Lvs. oblong to obovate, grayish pubescent beneath, 2-3½ in. long; corymbs tomentose, many-fid.: fr. ovoid to subglobose, purplish black, about ⅓ in. high May, June. Nova Scotia to Fla.
