Sarracenia sledgei, Macfar. (? S. Gronovii var. alata and S. flava var. crispata of authors). Pitchers erect, 12-30 in. long, trumpet-shaped, green with purple veins above, or greenish purple throughout; lid vertical or often slightly incurved, ovate-cordate; wing as in last: fls. 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 in. wide; petals whitish yellow to yellow, often fading to white, odor agreeable. Savanna swamps from west side of Alabama and Mobile rivers to E. Texas, often covering wide areas of marshland. —Very uniform in structure, but varying in color from green to dark claret in the pitchers; often confounded in the past with S. flava, which does not occupy the same area. Frequently hybridizes with S. Drummondii in nature to form S. areolata.<br />
