Talauma (S. American name). Magnoliaceae. Evergreen trees, grown occasionally in the warmhouse. Lvs., infl., and seeds as in Magnolia: sepals 3; petals 6 to many, imbricate in 2 rows; stamens numerous; carpels numerous, capitate or spicate, 2-ovuled.—About 30 species in the tropics of E. Asia, S. Amer., and Japan. Talauma is closely allied to Magnolia, but the carpels are indehiscent and deciduous, while those of Magnolia dehisce dorsally and are persistent.<br />
