Usually large shrub, with stout branches: lvs. obovate or oval-obovate, acute or acuminate, pubescent beneath at first, 4-7 in. long: fls. large, campanulate, white inside, purple outside, scentless; petals broad, obtuse, somewhat fleshy, about 3 ½ in. long; sepals small, ovate-lanceolate, greenish yellow: fr. brownish, ovate-oblong.
