Its members are [[evergreen]] [[tree]]s having edible one-seeded fruits. The [[flower]]s are [[polygamous]], with a globular [[sepal|calyx]] opening into two valvate [[sepal]]s. There are 4 to 6 [[petal]]s. Indehiscent [[drupe]]s are formed, containing 1 to 4 seeds. The leaves are rigid, coriaceous and often have pellucid dots.
