Half-shrubby plant, with erect, branched sts. up to 4 ft. high: lvs. opposite, petiolate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, shining green, undulate: fls. light yellow, 1 1/2 in. long, borne in erect, feathery panicles; calyx-lobes long, subulate, glandular-hairy, persistent after the corolla has fallen. Autumn. Brazil.—This plant has been confused with S. calycotricha, Nees, and has long been cult. under that name.
