Abies pinsapo - Spanish Fir. Native to Spain. Does very well in both warm/dry regions and cool/moist. Slow growth to 50 feet. Sometimes mistaken for a spruce (due to dense, symmetric form). Stiff needles are deep green and .5 to .75 inches long. They are set uniformly around branches. 'Glauca' variety is blue gray. Abies pinsapo (Spanish Fir) is a species of fir native to southern Spain (altitudes of 900-2000 m) and northern Morocco (1400-2100 m). It is an evergreen tree growing to 20-30 m tall, with a conic crown, sometimes becoming irregular with age. The leaves are 1.5-2 cm long, arranged radially all round the shoots, and are strongly glaucous pale blue-green, with broad bands of whitish wax on both sides. The cones are cylindrical, 9-18 cm long, greenish-pink to purple before maturity, and smooth with the bract scales short and not exserted. When mature, they disintegrate to release the winged seedswp. :More information about this species can be found on the genus page. ==Cultivation== edit-cult<!--- Type cultivation info below this line, then delete this entire line --> ===Propagation=== edit-prop<!--- Type propagation info below this line, then delete this entire line --> ===Pests and diseases=== edit-pests<!--- Type pest/disease info below this line, then delete this entire line --> ==Varieties== The Moroccan variety, Moroccan Fir Abies pinsapo var.
