The globemallows (or globe mallows) are members of the genus Sphaeralcea in the mallow family (Malvaceae). There are about 40-60 species, including annuals, perennials, and shrubs. Most originate in the drier regions of North America, with some known from South America. Another often-used common name is falsemallows. The leaves of these plants are spirally arranged, and usually palmate or toothed. Both stems and leaves are downy. Like other Malvaceae, the flowers are saucer- or cup-shaped, with the stamens joined into a column in the center. ==Cultivation== ===Propagation=== ===Pests and diseases=== ==Varieties== Selected species: *Sphaeralcea ambigua – Desert Globemallow *Sphaeralcea angustifolia – Copper Globemallow, Narrowleaf Desertmallow *Sphaeralcea bonariensis – Latin Globemallow *Sphaeralcea caespitosa – Tufted Globemallow *Sphaeralcea coccinea – Scarlet Globemallow, Red Globemallow, Red Falsemallow *Sphaeralcea coulteri – Coulter's Globemallow *Sphaeralcea digitata – Juniper Globemallow, Slippery Globemallow *Sphaeralcea emoryi – Emory's Globemallow *Sphaeralcea fendleri – Fendler's Globemallow, Thicket Globemallow *Sphaeralcea gierischii – Gierisch Mallow *Sphaeralcea grossulariifolia - Gooseberryleaf Globemallow, Currantleaf Globemallow *Sphaeralcea hastulata – Spear Globemallow, Spreading Globemallow *Sphaeralcea incana – Grey Globemallow, Soft Globemallow, Caliche Globemallow, azeentliini *Sphaeralcea janeae – Jane's Globemallow *Sphaeralcea leptophylla – Scaly Globemallow *Sphaeralcea lindheimeri – Woolly Globemallow *Sphaeralcea munroana – Munro's Globemallow, Whitestem Globemallow *Sphaeralcea nutans *Sphaeralcea obtusiloba *Sphaeralcea orcuttii – Carrizo Creek Globemallow *Sphaeralcea palmeri *Sphaeralcea parvifolia – Smallflower Globemallow, Littleleaf Globemallow *Sphaeralcea pedatifida – Palmleaf Globemallow *Sphaeralcea philippiana *Sphaeralcea polychroma – Hot Springs Globemallow *Sphaeralcea procera – Luna County Globemallow *Sphaeralcea psoraloides – Psoralea Globemallow *Sphaeralcea rusbyi – Rusby's Globemallow, Cutleaf Globemallow *Sphaeralcea subhastata *Sphaeralcea sulphurea *Sphaeralcea wrightii – Wright's Globemallow ==Gallery== <gallery perrow=5> Image:Upload.png| photo 1 Image:Upload.png| photo 2 Image:Upload.png| photo 3 </gallery> ==References== <references/> <!--- xxxxx *Flora: The Gardener's Bible, by Sean Hogan.
