Prostrate, almost hardy shrub of straggling habit: lvs. closely quadrifariously imbricated, opposite pairs united at base, spreading, recurved, 1/8-1/4 in. long, broadly obovate-oblong, leathery, concave, glabrous, keeled, rounded or sub-acute at apex: fls. small, white, in dense terminal ovoid heads. Early summer. Mountains, New Zeal. V. Haastii, Hook, f., is closely related to the above but is a larger plant with the lvs. more fleshy and not recurved or keeled.
