Juice milky: lvs. simple, alternate: fls. monoecious; staminate calyx 2-3-lobed, imbricate; ovules 1 in each of the 6-9 cells: fr. a drupe.—One species. Related to Sapium and Stillingia. The juice is poisonous internally and externally, though some persons seem to be immune. It was formerly supposed that even the shade of the tree was poisonous. It was used by the natives for arrow poison, and the like. Prop, by cuttings in sand with heat.
