Half-shrubby, 2-4 ft. tall, nearly glabrous: st. acutely 4-angled: lvs. usually 1 ft. or less long, oblong- lanceolate-acuminate, entire, the short winged petiole somewhat decurrent, very strongly veined, purple-red beneath and dark velvety green above: fls. yellow, with a red spot in the center.
