Small trees or shrubs, with alternate, simple exstipulate leaves and small inconspicuous flowers.CH
Flowers dioecious; staminate flowers with a 4-5-parted calyx and no petals, and with many stamens, arranged on a fleshy receptacle; pistillate flowers with a 5-7-parted, persistent calyx and no petals, the ovary free, sessile, 1-6 celled, on a lobed usually fleshy disk; fruit fleshy, indehiscent. Eleven species in Afr. and Ceylon.CH
