Chorisia (Ludwig Choris, born 1795, artist of Kotzebue's expedition). Bombacaceae. Spiny trees of S. Amer. (3 species), one of which is somewhat cult. Lvs. alternate, digitate, of 5-7 entire or serrate lfts.: fls. large, with 5 linear or oblong petals, the peduncles axillary or racemose; staminal tube double, the outer one short and with sterile anthers; ovary 5-loculed and many-ovuled: fr. a pear-shaped caps, with many silky seeds.
