Corokia (from the native name). Cornaceae. Evergreen shrubs, adapted to outdoor planting in the S. Upright, with tortuous or straight branches and black bark: lvs. alternate or fascicled, stalked, entire: fls. perfect, small, yellow, in axillary or terminal clusters; calyx- tube top-shaped, the limb 5-lobed; petals 5, each with a scale at base; stamens 5: fr. an ovoid or oblong 1-2-celled drupe. Three or four species in New Zeal. C. Cotoneaster, Raoul, is offered abroad as a bush of curious growth, very attractive when covered with its very small yellow star-like fls.: rigid, densely branched, 4-8 ft., the branches crooked and interlaced, tomentose: lvs. 1 in. or less long, the blade orbicular to obovate or oblong, ovate, obtuse or emarginate, shining above, flat, stalked.
