Zygostates is a genus found in central to southern Brazil. It is a member of the Tribe Maxillarieae, Subtribe Ornithocephalinae[1]. The word is from the Greek zygostates (weigher, balance) and refers to the projections from the base of the column which resemble a balance[2]
