May, June. Japan.—One of the most beautiful of the deciduous species, the under side of the lvs. being almost silvery white; about as hardy as M. macrophylla. The name M. hypoleuca is used here, instead of the oldest name, M. obovata, to avoid confusion, as the latter name has been applied erroneously by most botanists to the plant named here M. liliflora. |
