Houstonia caerulea, Linn. Bluets. Innocence. Quaker Lady. Fig. 1920. Little tufted perennials, 3-6 in. high, the sts. glabrous: radical lvs. spatulate to obovate, hairy, short - petioled, the st.-lvs. small: corolla salyerform, the tube much exceeding the calyx-lobes, varying from blue to white, with a yellow eye. B.M. 370. Gn.vV. 20:868. — Charming little plant in grassy places in the northeastern states and southward in the Alleghany region; early spring. Excellent for rockwork and grassy borders. In gardens, may be treated as annual or biennial.
