Iris japonica, Thunb. (I. chinensis, Curt. I. fimbriata, Vent.). Leaves ensiform, thick, smooth, 1-1 ½ ft. long: stems slender, as long as the leaves, with a raceme of lilac flowers: tube ¾ in. long; outer segments 1-1 ½ in. long, with crimped margins, yellow on the claw, crested; inner segments smallerCH. WinterCH. Japan and ChinaCH. Grown as an evergreen greenhouse plant in colder climates. Does very well outdoors in a shady borderCH.
