Bulbocodium (Greek, woody bulb). Luiacex. Crocus-like bulbous plants of mts. of Eu. and Russian Asia, spring-flowering or autumn-flowering. Leaves appearing after (or before) the fls., usually 3, narrow, sheathed at base: fls. close to the ground, 2-3 from each bulb, the perianth funnelform, segms. distinct to the base but conniving in a tube; stamens 6; style 3-fld. at the top.—One variable species, treated in general as crocuses are cult. Allied to Merendera, to which some of the former species are referred.
