Myrica cerifera, Linn. (Morella cerifera, Small. Cerothamnus cerifera, Small). Fig. 2422. Slender tree, occasionally to 40 ft., nearly glabrous: lvs. persistent, oblong or oblanceolate, usually acute, cuneate at the base, coarsely serrate above the middle, or entire, dark green above, paler and sometimes pubescent beneath, golden resinous, 1-3 in. long, about ½in. broad: staminate aments cylindric, pistillate aments short: fr. 1/8 in across. March, April. Md. to Fla., Texas and Ark. S.S. 9:459. G.F. 7:476 (adapted in Fig. 2422).—The plant cult.as M. cerifera is usually the following species.
