Anthericum (Greek, flower hedge). Includes Phalangium. Liliaceae. Non-bulbous liliaceous plants grown in borders and cool greenhouses. Herbs, with tuber-like rhizomes, and racemes of rather small, white, deep-cut fls.: perianth rotate; anthers attached between their basal lobes, and the locules many-ovuled—in these characters differing from Paradisea.—Some 50 species, mostly African, but a few in the western hemisphere. The anthericums are useful for lawn vases, for borders that are protected in winter at the North, for greenhouses and also for growing under benches. Propagation naturally by stolons; increased also by division and seeds. Of easiest culture. Give plenty of water when in bloom.
