Spiraea blumei, Don (S. rupestris, Sieb.). Shrub, 4 ft. high, with spreading and arching branches: lvs. ovate to rhombic-ovate, incisely crenate-serrate, pale bluish green beneath and rather prominently veined, 3/4 – 1 3/4 in. long: fls. polygamous, white, in many-fld. umbels; petals roundish-obovate, about as long as stamens: follicles with spreading or reflexed styles. June. Japan.—Not hardy N., rare in cult.; often the following or other species are met with under its names. CH
