Agave attenuata, Salm-Dyck (A. glaucescens, Hook.). Trunk 4-5 ft., sometimes prostrate: lvs. broadly oblanceolate, spreading, with recurved tips, 6-10 x25-30 in., glaucous, thin, entirely unarmed: infl. 5-10 ft., usually recurving, its very short stalk closely covered by bracts; fls. paired, about 2 in.; ovary flask-shaped, 3/4-l in., segm. 3/4 in., tube 1/4 in. Exceptionally produces large bulbils among the caps, after flowering. Mex.—Varies in a form with sterile base of spike longer and sparsely bracted, and fls. in clusters of 6-8, var. paucibracteata, Rep. Mo. Bot. Gard. 11, pi. 7. The varietal names elliptica, latifolia, latissima and subundulata have been applied to garden forms. A cross with A. Verschaffeltii is x A. Guignárdii, Hort.; a cross with A. xylonacantha is listed.
