Hippeastrelia "Durga Pradhan"

Hippeastrum X Sprekelia Formosissima

Mr. Udai Pradhan of India produced this rare man-made bigeneric hybrid in the 1970s. This cross of Hippeastrum (amaryllis) x Sprekelia formosissima (Aztec lily) created the perfect combination of the two plants. The flowers are a rarely seen deep red. The bulbs offset readily and will form a large clump.

In colder climates, Hippeastrelia performs best in a dry, well drained spot in full baking sun. In hotter climates, some shade is best. The bulbs multiply rapidly to form a nice clump. They make good cut flowers and excellent potted plants in colder zones.
