Calodendrum (Greek, beautiful tree). Pallasia, Houtt, which is the older name. Rutaceae. One of the handsomest deciduous trees at the Cape of Good Hope; cultivated in northern greenhouses, and outdoors in southern California and southern Florida. The great panicles of white or flesh-colored fls. are sometimes 7 in. across and 6 in. deep. It is a symmetrical tree, with attractive evergreen foliage and many interesting features. Called “wild chestnut” in Afr. Prop, by cuttings of half-ripened wood under glass in heat. A monotypic genus. ^CH The above text is from the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture.
