Acer truncatum, Bunge. Tree, to 25 ft.: lvs. deeply 5-lobed and mostly truncate at the base, 2 1/2-4 in. across, glabrous, light green, purplish when unfolding; lobes acuminate, setosely pointed, entire or sometimes the middle ones 3-lobed: fr. with yellow, short and broad wings, spreading at right or obtuse angles. N. China. S.T.S. 1:76.—Hardy tree, with handsome, dense foliage.CH
