Senecio cineraria, DC. (Cineraria maritima, Linn. Senecio acanthifolius, Hort.). Figs. 3606, 3607. Perennial, 2 1/2 ft. or less tall, branching from the base, very white-woolly throughout: lvs. pinnatifid, with oblong and obtuse segms.: heads usually radiate, 1/4 – 1/2 in. high, disposed in small, compact cymes. F.M. 1872:52. Var. candidissimus, Hort., has very white foliage. Var. aureo-marginatus, Hort., has lvs. bordered with orange- yellow.—S. Cineraria is an old-fashioned garden plant, sometimes known as "dusty miller," and at the present time it is much used in American gardens for ribbon-beds and margins; the commoner "dusty miller" is Lychnis Coronaria, and still another one is Artemisia Stelleriana.
