Smilax laurifolia, Linn. False China Brier. Similar to Smilax lanceolata in habit: lvs. narrow, oblong, thick, green on both sides, turning dark brown on wilting: berries smaller, 1-seeded. N. J. south to Fla. and Texas. July, Aug. B.B. (ed. 2) 1:530.— This plant is always found near water, usually associated with S. Walteri. CH
