Phalaenopsis Lueddemanniana, Reichb. f. A small plant, with thick, oblong fleshy lvs. 6-8 in. long: infl. about as long as the lvs., with few handsome fls. near the top; fls. 2-3 in. across; sepals and petals oblong-acute, white, marked with transverse bars, those at the base being amethyst, while the upper ones are brown; labellum deep violet, with yellow blotches on the side lobes; middle lobe oblong; side lobes erect, ligulate, deeply 2-toothed. Feb., March. Philippines. B.M. 5523. F.S. 16:1636. R.H. 1872:390. F. 1865:257. G.C. III. 39:259. R.B. 26:169.—The old fl.-sts. of this plant produce young plants by which the species may be easily increased. Var. ochracea, Reichb. f. A form with yellowish fls. and ochre-colored bars.
