Lavanga (from the Bengal name). Sometimes written Luvunga. Rutaceae, tribe Citreae. Lavanga- Lata. Climbing shrubs, distantly related to the orange.

Leaves alternate, trifolioliate, with long wingless petioles; lfts. with motile petiolules; spines axillary, strong, recurved: flowers in axillary clusters, 4—5-merous; stamens twice as many as the petals; anthers linear; ovary 3-, 4- or 5-celled with 2 superposed ovules in each cell: fruits oval or oblong, resinous within (without pulp vesicles) and having a thick oily lemon-like peel. —Several species are known, occurring in India, the Malayan Archipelago and Cochin-China. These plants should be intro. into the II. S. for trial as stocks for citrous frs., and for use in breeding experiments. The name is commonly spelled Luvunga, but appears as Lavanga in the original publication.
