Aerides maculosum, Lindl. Lvs. up to 10 in. long and nearly 2 in. broad : infl. longer than the lvs., often paniculate at the base; fls. about 1 1/2 in. long, the sepals and petals white, the upper portion stained and spotted with amethyst, oval-oblong; lip clawed, the blade amethyst, deeper in the middle, ovate-oblong, obtuse, with 2 small white tubercles at the base; spur incurved, short, green-tipped. India. Var. Schroederi, Veitch. Differs from the type in its more robust habit, its longer lvs., and the darker markings of the sepals, petals, and middle of the lip.
