Cytisus nigricans, Linn. (Lembotropis nigricans, Griseb.). Shrub, 2-4 ft., with erect, appressed-pubescent branches: Lvs. long-petioled; lfts. obovate or oblong- obovate, glabrous above, appressed-pubescent beneath, ⅓-1 in. long: racemes very long and slender, 3-8 in. long. June, July. Germany, N. Italy, Hungary. L.B.C. 6:570. B.R. 10:802. B.M. 8479. R.B. 26:3. Var. elongatus, Borkh. (var. longespicatus, Hort.). Blooming again in fall at the top of the elongated fruiting racemes. R.H. 1891, p. 149 (as var. Carlieri). CH
