Acacia glaucescens, Willd. (A. cinerascens, Sieb. A. homomalla, Wendl. A. leucadendron, Cunn.). A tree up to 50 ft. high, with branchlets and phyll. covered with a gray pubescence which gives an ashy hue to the foliage, the young shoots yellowish: phyll. lanceolate to sickle-shaped, widest in center and tapering at both ends, striate, with 3 or 4 nerves more prominent, 3 1/2-6 in. long, from less than 1/2-3/4in. or even 1 in. wide; gland near base: spikes several, in the axils of the phyll., 1-2 in. long; fls. 4- or 5-merous; petals united and very narrow at base giving prominence to the short united sepals covered with a bright yellow pubescence like pile on velvet. According to J. H. Maiden, the pod, as originally described, was that of A. Maidenii, and the error seems to have been copied into subsequent publications. B.M. 3174.—This is often confused with A. Maidenii, but that species is less pubescent, has a much-twisted pod, and red funicles almost encircling seeds.
