Prunus campanulata, Maxim. (P. cerasoides var. campanulata, Koidz.). Closely related to P. cerasoides: tree, to 25 ft.: lvs. ovate to elliptic-ovate, glabrous, usually doubly serrate, 3-5 in. long: fls. pendulous, campanulate, 3/4in. long, deep rose-colored; calyx purple: fr. ovoid, 3/5in. long, red. Formosa, probably Liu-kiu Isls., cult, in S. Japan. Gn. 56:300 (as P. pendula).—Very ornamental; not hardy N. A beautiful species as grown in Japan. The Himalayan species (P. cerasoides) has more coriaceous and more sharply toothed lvs. in which double serration is usually not so marked.
