Erica verticillata, Berg. An erect shrub, 4-6 ft., with lvs. 4-6 in a whorl: lvs. densely imbricate, erect or spreading: fls. mostly in 4's in wild specimens, but, according to Andrews, umbellately 3-10-fld. in cult.; corolla tubular, hairy, usually straight, bright rosy-scarlet, and very showy: caps, unique in splitting into 8 valves.
