Hedysarum coronarium. Linn. French Honeysuckle. Perennial or biennial, 2-4 ft. tall, branchy: an old garden plant with deep red, fragrant fls., crowded in axillary spikes or racemes: lvs. with 3-7 pairs of elliptic or roundish, somewhat pubescent lfts. Eu. Summer. Var. album, Hort., has white fls.—H. hurntie, Linn., is by some regarded as a form of this species, with rather more and narrower lfts., and wings only half as long as the keel.
