Hibiscus radiatus, Willd. (not Cav.). Woody shrub, 3-4 ft., armed on branches and petioles with small prickles: lvs. rather narrow, deeply palmately divided, 3-5- lobed, or uppermost simple, the lobes broad-lanceo-late and serrate; stipules linear: bracteoles 8-10, linear, forked: fls. axillary and solitary, yellow with crimson center; calyx not glandular. India, Java. Widely cult. in tropics. Var. flore-purpureo, Hook., has rose-purple fls. B. M. 5098. Var. lindlei (H. lindlei, Wall) has deep purple fls. B.R. 1395.
