Zingiber cylindricum, Moon. Leafy sts. 6 ft. or more high: lvs. sessile, oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, attenuate-acuminate; base acute, glabrous above, puberulent beneath, up to 8 x 2 1/2 in.: spike 3 1/2 in. long, cylindrical, narrowed at both ends, dense, bracts lower obtuse, upper acute, pale or reddish; corolla-lobes lanceolate, greenish, subequal, greenish, lip yellowish white, lateral lobes small, obtuse. Ceylon.
