Rhus coriaria, Linn. Shrub, to 20 ft.: petiole short; rachis winged, at least in the upper part, villous; lfts. 9-15, oval to oblong, obtuse or acutish, coarsely toothed, pubescent beneath, l 1/2-2 in. long: fls. greenish, in a rather loose terminal panicle: fr. crimson, densely pubescent. July. Medit. region, W. Asia. H.W. 3, p. 33.—The lvs. are used for tanning leather.
