Aristotelia (after the Greek philosopher Aristotle). Elaeocarpaceae. Woody plants sometimes grown in the open in warm countries. Leaves evergreen, nearly opposite, entire or toothed: fls. polygamous; sepals 4-5, valvate; petals of the same number: berries small, edible.—A genus of 7 species of trees and shrubs from the southern hemisphere, allied to Elaeocarpus. Prop, by ripened cuttings, under bell- jar or closed frame.
