Begonia lucerna, Hort. Fig. 533. Hybrid of exceptional merit, with habit and constitution of President Carnot: lvs. heavily spotted with white, specially when young: fls. in long pendulous clusters that are often 1 ft. in diam.; male fls. 1 in. across; females much larger, with bright pink ovaries, giving the plant a distinctive appearance as they persist for many weeks.—The plant succeeds well in a warm greenhouse. Should be in every collection. Named for Lucerne, where it originated. Intro, to commerce in 1903.
