Aloe commutata, Tod. Lvs. as in A. saponaria but with somewhat recurved apex and weaker green-based prickles, 1½-2 x 6 in.: infl. few-branched, 3 ft. high; fls. campanulately widened, 1⅛ in. long, light red, the nerved segms. shorter than the tube. Cape region (?). Tod., Hort. Pan. 18. Berger 77.—Varies in a form with the reddish lvs. scarcely ½ in. wide and more conspicuously white-banded, var. tricolor, Berger (A. tricolor, Baker). B.M. 6324.
