Begonia schmidtiana, Regel (B. Schmidtii, Hort.). Herbaceous or half-shrubby, slender-branched, 1 ft. or less in height, the branches red-tinged: Lvs. lobed, toothed, hairy, about 2 in. long, reddish beneath: fls. white, tinted with rose. Brazil. R.H. 1883, pp. 56-7. Gn. 17, pp. 268-9.-—A very useful plant for summer bedding. Named for Mr. Schmidt, of the firm of Haage & Schmidt, Erfurt. Var. rosea, Hort., has rose-red fls.
