Capsicum Var. longum, Sendt. (C. Annuum. Linn. C. longum, DC.). Plant herbaceous, about 2½ ft. high, with comparatively few branches: lvs. large, often 4 in. long by 2½ in. wide: fl. large; corolla spreading,⅞-1¼ in., dingy white; calyx usually pateriform or funnelform, rarely embracing base of fr.: fr. often a foot long by 2 in. diam. at base; flesh thick and in some varieties very mild.
